After what must have seemed like an eternity to you readers (hello? anybody out there?), I’m back. It’s been a busy summer and honestly I had one rough weekend that resulted in me just not feeling up to blogging for nearly 3 weeks. But I’m back! I wasn’t spending the time idle – oh no no no – so I have plenty of books and bites to catch you up on. For now, though, I’ll just tell you about a really great weekend I just had.

Juneteenth is now celebrated as a federal holiday, and I think it’s about time it was celebrated on such a scale. It fell on a Monday this year, which meant a long weekend so we kept the outdoor festivities going (outside was the name of the game for us this weekend) but hanging in Central Park. It felt particularly appropriate to stop by Seneca Village so we made sure to hit that up on our walk…but not til after a stop at the playground where Finn reeeeally wanted to play in the splash pad(s). Unfortunately, I neglected to bring a bathing suit and it’s not so easy to rationalize with a 1.5 year old. He simply didn’t understand why it was a bad idea to get fully soaked.

On Saturday we headed to Connecticut for a friend’s kid’s bday party and then an overnight stay so we could wake up and start celebrating Father’s Day and my Father in Law’s birthday. It was really nice to spend time with family and Finn absolutely loves running around with his cousins.

On Friday evening we headed to the Bronx Zoo for Brew at the Zoo. If I’m being honest, it’s amazing I rallied. I went out for a going away party on Thursday night and raged like I haven’t raged in years. Getting home at 3 am on a school night when your child wakes up at 7 am no matter what is rough. But we’d been planning Brew at the Zoo for weeks and I was really pumped to hang with everyone so I pulled it together and had the absolute best time I’ve had in a while. Upon entering the zoo (which is really a spectacular zoo), you pick up a little mini 5 oz stein and then bop around to all the tents to sample 100 different beverage varieties. There were food trucks, peacocks strutting their stuff, several photobooths, games, and a carousel. It was a fab night.
