Mirepoix

I went away on vacation and really leaned into the whole vacation bit. I didn’t take the whole week off, but work was light for some of the days due to the 4th of July holiday and then I fully disconnected for the two days I actually took so I was super relaxed. Normally I try to squeeze every last second out of my trips home, but we came back Saturday morning and I gotta admit it was the right move. We walked in the door at 2 pm so we still had half a day to start acclimating before having a totally normal Sunday to ease back into the first full work week in a minute. It was way easier and eliminated that whole need-a-vacation-from-my-vacation thing.

I intended to work out four days of my trip and succeeded in working out three days so I’ll consider that a win. (I also consider it a win that I packed PERFECTLY – outside of that extra workout outfit, I wore every single item I brought, some things I even wore twice.) I did one of my runs on the beach and the other two along our neighborhood’s bike/walking paths. It meant I got some shade and I find it so beautiful running through the trees.

I was so happy to see that Finn loved both the beach and the pool. So many kids are afraid of the water or hate the sun and sand – not this guy! He was truly living his best life pushing a truck along the dunes and eating snacks. He also picked up a few new words while we were away. His total vocabulary is only around five words, but I love recognizing every time he comes a bit closer to communicating with us.

Like I mentioned, we got back at 2 pm on Saturday, which means meal times were all messed up. I was running solely on coffee so I wasn’t going to make it all the way to supper but didn’t want to ruin the fun takeout we had planned by eating a full meal so late in the afternoon. I made a little snack board with mini baguettes, some olive relish, a wedge of blue cheese, and some tinned fish. It was perfect – I love a lil tin fish meal!
