Book Review: All the Dangerous Things

Isabelle Drake is consumed by her infant son’s kidnapping. She speaks at crime conferences to keep the search alive, trolls message boards, and doesn’t sleep. Like, at all. Isabelle hasn’t slept in a year. With the police and her [ex] husband having given up, she agrees to work with a true crime podcaster to turn up any new leads. But trauma and lack of sleep can wreak havoc on your mental health, skewing perception. As they dive deeper into the case, Isabelle begins to question her own memories – of her childhood, her marriage, and even of the night Mason disappeared.

Ok so this book not only takes place in Savannah, but Isabelle lives in the same Isle of Hope area where I grew up. And she’s working with a podcaster aka my previous industry. And her child is the exact same age as mine. AND the author is UGA grad. There was no doubt I’d be picking up this book. That said, I would have enjoyed it even if it weren’t for all the similarities. The tension built so steadily that the ending felt explosive (rather than unhinged). What a reminder to trust your gut.

4 out of 5 stars (I may or may not have bumped this up a quarter of a point due to the setting and the fact that the author is a fellow Dawg)
