Mirepoix

This has been an interesting week. We’re busier at work than we’ve ever been…and it just so happens to coincide with a time when our team is down 50%. On top of that, Finn’s school is closed for the week as teachers prep for the new school year. We hired a sitter to help out for the first half of the day Monday through Wednesday and other than that we’re just…surviving. I’ll tell you this: I could not be more excited for the long weekend. Almost there…

On Monday late afternoon, we took V down to the courtyard to run out some energy and do a little art project. He wasn’t super into it at first – he much preferred just running around in circles – but once he decided he was ready to paint, he was very ready and used every last drop. It’s kind of how he approaches most things. He tends to stand off to the side, observing new people and activities before diving in full force once he’s comfortable.

It had been a while since I made a cheese plate and we were overdue. We also missed our first monthly date night in about 10 months. While we weren’t able to get a babysitter and have a true night out, I wanted to enjoy a purposeful evening so I prepped a special spread and we watched a movie together. We’ll be back to our “real” date nights in September, but I’m glad we were able to recognize the importance of still dedicating some time to each other even if it’s at home – sometimes it’s just about calling it a date night out loud that makes all the difference, ya know?

Last week, I travelled to Philly for work. Truthfully, it was not an ideal time to go (based on our aforementioned busy-level and decreased staffing) and it really took it out of me. Typically, 3 days and 2 nights in a hotel by myself would be a perfect way to recharge and get some solid me time (and don’t get me wrong, I did), but I was running around so much that I was fully exhausted when I got back to the city and my Alberts. Like needed to go to bed at 9:45 kind of exhausted ha. That said, I love Philly – it’s such a cool city with a great vibe and awesome food scene. I was lucky to squeeze in some time with one of my best friends as well as with a pledge sister I haven’t seen in ages (but can happily report we picked up like no time had passed). I even got to take myself out on a date with a dirty martini and a good book. All in all, a great little getaway.
