The week between Christmas and New Years feels very different for me this year. Every other year of my career my industry slows to a nearly nonexistent pace so I’m always off work, even if unofficially. This year, however, work seems to be as busy as usual. I wouldn’t necessarily mind (especially since I’m fully WFH), but Finn is out of school for the week and it would be nice to play with him. Not gonna lie, it would also be nice to have that full week of relaxation!

While we spent Christmas Day in CT with my husband’s family, we enjoyed a Christmas Eve celebration in Queens at Matt and Karina’s place. For several years in a row, they’ve hosted a feast of the seven fishes and it’s a fun change of pace – it feels more party than cozy Christmas and I love that we get to have both experiences. We get there around 4pm so we’re able to have almost 4.5 hours of fun (and wine) before having to get home to put Finn in bed.

We weren’t spending the night in Connecticut and it was fun to see Finn experience Christmas morning at home. He’s just barely two but he’s starting to grasp the concept and certainly loves opening presents.

We ate Christmas dinner around 4 pm and it was great – roast beef, lots of pierogis, mushroom soup – but that means you get hungry around 9 pm. It’s the same situation as Thanksgiving, only since we weren’t staying in Connecticut we didn’t get to sneak back to the fridge for a late night leftover snackie. That meant we did Jewish Christmas, aka ordered Chinese food! Perhaps it’s unconventional to have a traditional Slovak Christmas and a Jewish celebration in the span of a few hours but I love our lil interfaith household quirks.
