Mirepoix

With weather and work both kinda all over the place this week, it’s been a bit weird. I’m happy to say I’ve been pretty good about getting myself out of the house though, which is really nice. Whether it’s to work out of a coffee shop, take a Peloton class in-studio, or even just run errands in the middle of the day, it’s done wonders for my mental state just gettin gout of the house. In fact, today, I ate one of the best tuna melts I’ve ever had (at Daily Provisions) and that alone had the power to turn the day around.

Sunday was Finn’s first soccer practice. I use the term soccer loosely because there are no uniforms/cleats and almost none of the kids in his age group could follow directions. As the parent organizer said, it’s mostly just to get the wiggles out. For us, that’s HUGE. Toddlers are up by 7am but very few places/activities open before 10, by which point we’ve lived three lifetimes. Having a plan that starts at 9:30 is big. Plenty of parents got the memo and it was the biggest turnout to date. Finn was pumped to see quite a few kids he knows from school/the neighborhood and I was thrilled to see so many other families reminding me that we’re part of a beautiful community and surrounded by other people at the same life stage as us. Finn was having such a good time that he stayed and ran around the park with his little friends for another 45 minutes after practice ended before we toted him away to the next activity.

The solar eclipse was a pretty big deal…that I kinda didn’t care about. Sure, it would have been cool, but I had a dentist appointment at the exact time it was happening. Once I knew I wouldn’t be able to catch it, I stopped thinking about it. Just another Monday. I did, however, love seeing everyone out and about. I walked through Central Park where everyone was still lounging post-viewing and it reminded me of a summer weekend scene. Now THAT’s something to look forward to.

Our anniversary was on Monday and it was very lowkey. Monday is a downer day to celbrate so we decided not to. While we did exchange gifts, we decided not to stress ourselves out by forcing something on the actual day and planned our celebration for this weekend. We lined up the babysitter and made a dinner reservation so everything is taken care of. A stress-free celebration is the best kind. I also love that my beau made me a little mini arrangement with a treat on my nightstand. I love that it’s the last thing I see when I close my eyes at night during our anniversary week.
