Book Review: Butcher & Blackbird

Sloane and Rowan form a unique two-person club: they’re both serial killers who only kill other serial killers. When they stumble upon each other, an instant friendship forms and they decide to meet annually in a game to hunt and kill a pre-determined target. With such a niche side hustle, it’s only a matter of time before they realize they’re perfect for each other and when they do – phewwww – this is a spicy read.

I love romcoms but am not a chick-lit fan because usually those books feel far too cheesy. That means I’m always looking for something light and cute that doesn’t feel overly predictable (obviously we know they’ll get together at the end, but I shouldn’t be able to pen the plot/dialogue myself) – a book like that can be quite elusive. If you feel the same, try this one on for size. The plot is definitely unique (outside of fantasy, you never see murder as an endearing quality), but at the end of the day it’s still a cute romance. This one took booktok by storm, and I get it. It might be packed with sex, but there’s still depth to the characters and unpredictable plot points.

4.25 out of 5 stars.
