After getting myself on a nice posting streak, I took two weeks off. Oops. Work has gotten a little out of control and the wheels seem to be coming off. While I may have had the time to blog, I certainly didn’t have the mental fortitude. The situation with the company is concerning and there was simply no space in my brain to focus on something like this site when I’m putting so much effort into worrying. But I’m putting an action plan into practice and am devoted to improving the situation. The long Memorial Day weekend could not come at a better time. We have three lowkey backyard hangs on the agenda and I’ve planned a fun Mommy and V morning when school is closed on Friday. Leisure will be the name of the game and I could not be more ready to kick off summer.

On Sunday, my beau ran the Brooklyn Half. Running 13.1 miles seems impossible to me…doing it in 1:47 minutes is downright unfathomable. I’m so proud of him and while he somehow ran right past us without us spotting him, V and I had a blast cheering him on. He had spent weeks thinking the half marathon was on Sunday and only realized it was happening on Saturday about 15 hours beforehand. That was a close one! The race ended on the Coney Island boardwalk, which may just be the coolest finish line ever. After grabbing a celebratory beer and hot dog, we took Finn to Luna Park for some amusement rides and his first taste of cotton candy. After all that, both Alberts fell asleep on the car ride home – quite a successful day.

Every week, Finn becomes more and more of a real person. He’s starting to understand reason and consequences, and it’s really cool to see. He’s also engaging more in activities. Before, it was hard to take him anywhere because he wouldn’t focus, preferring just to run around. He still does that, but now he’ll stay involved in something for more than a minute. Whether it’s drawing with markers, joining a drum circle in the park, or taking part in the dance party at a birthday, he’ll actually stay in one place for a bit. It makes things much easier on us as parents, but it’s also very cool to see him enjoying himself and talking about what he does and doesn’t like to do.

Last night, we were invited to a fundraiser/gala event to benefit Share Our Strength. I’ve attended these types of things before, but this one was particularly cool. Each table was treated to a multi-course menu cooked tableside with perfectly paired wines by the country’s top talent. Our table was treated to food by Alex Raij and Eder Montero of Saint Julivert Fisherie/Txikito/La Vara and wine curated by Kristen Goceljak, the Somm at Crown Shy. Everything was absolutely delicious, the company was lovely, and we were able to support an organization that’s doing truly great work. It was also fun to get dressed up in cocktail attire and go out on a school night. It was cool to feel like a member of “society,” even if only for a night.
