You may have noticed I took about three weeks off. That’s because my work life was crazy. My job had turned into a real life episode of Normal Gossip (seriously, wondering if I should pitch it to them) and I was actively trying to get things back to normal. Thankfully, I saw the signs of an extraordinarily toxic (and illegal) environment and started looking for a way out. I was fortunate to find a new job just as everything came to a head and started two weeks ago. I look forward to sharing more but for now let’s just be happy that things are all working out. Let’s also be happy we found childcare while V’s school is closed all week for teacher development.

Japan Fes is an organization that puts on about 30 Japanese themed street food festivals per year. We’ve been before, but recently stumbled upon one without even planning on it. Finn loved his stuffed ube souffle pancake and stir fried ramen noodles, Albert enjoyed karage and an old fave, Mao Bao. I sampled it all, plus some boba, onigiri, and tanghulu. It’s funny to me that tanghulu recently BLEW UP all over TikTok like it was a new invention. Meanwhile, if you’ve walked through any NYC street fair in the last 10 years, you would have spotted the candied fruit. I still got some because it’s delicious.

On Sunday night I went to a concert. I can’t believe I went out on a Sunday night, much less to a Pitbull concert (with T Pain as the opener!), but I had so much fun. The best part is that it was at Forest Hills Stadium, a super cool venue…that also has to deal with noise ordinances that require things to fully shut down by 10pm. That means the show ended at 9:45 and I walked in my front door at 10:15pm. It kept me from getting too crazy while still singing and dancing my heart out.

Before I was a wild woman at a concert, I exhibited a completely different persona while strolling the Upper West Side farmer’s market after a trip to the Museum of Natural History. I came back with an incredible haul: a bouquet of wildflowers, blackberries, rainbow chard, water buffalo (!), and gorgeous heirloom tomatoes that I devoured on toast the next day. What a positively New York day.
