I love bringing treats into a movie and while I enjoy a package of Twizzlers (used as a straw in a Diet Coke, naturally), my current game is sneaking in some sweets from a local bakery. It seems particularly fitting when seeing an independent film at a small theater. Indie film and indie dessert shop: perfect match. Most recently I saw Thelma (fabulous) and grabbed some sweet treats from Postcard Bakery on the way.

This small shop is giving serious Wes Anderson. Which means I’m just happy when I walk in. This bakery joins the party from the owners of next door Nami Nori, which means you won’t find a massive menu but there will be an attention to detail for each item. It’s also one of the few places you can find Japanese fruit sandwiches on that ultra fluffy white bread. I didn’t try the sandwiches. (I’m not a whipped cream gal so I’m afraid I wouldn’t like them and always wind up going with items I’m sure I’ll enjoy.)

I tried two different flavors of mochi doughnuts (raspberry and matcha) and the sesame miso chocolate chip cookie. I’ll be honest, the doughnuts weren’t great. I was hoping for lil mochi munchkins, but they were a bit dry. The cookie, on the other hand, was fabulous. I love that the crunch came from the sesame rather than crispy edges because overall I like me a soft cookie. And miso gives it that saltiness you need to bring out the flavor of the chocolate. Overall, a great to-go spot especially if you want something more legit with your takeout tea.
