Book Review: Funny Story

Daphne moved to Michigan to be with the love of her life in a white picket fence home. It was all picture perfect…until Peter dumps her for his childhood best friend right before the wedding, leaving her stranded and friendless in an unfamiliar town. Of course Peter, her white knight, was covering most of the bills and while she loves her job as a children’s librarian, that salary won’t get her much in the way of a new apartment, which she needs immediately since Peter has already replaced her. And that’s how she ends up moving in with Miles, the ex of the woman Peter left her for. Miles could not be more different than Peter. He’s a scruffy hippy who Daphne seems aimless. But he might be convenient in more than just the housing department. A fake dating scenario may be just what she needs. Unless, of course, it stops being fake.

This one is rightttt up there with Beach Read as my fave EmHen novel. I like how Miles and Daphne push each other and how they fully admit to the messiness of the situation. I also love when you can feel how much characters care about something – the respective love interests, sure, but in this case I could tell how much effort and love Daphne and Miles each put into their jobs or community. It’s just such a sweet story. Another win for Emily Henry.

4.25 out of 5 stars.
