Book Review: Lies and Weddings

The Greshams are about to lose it all, but nobody knows it yet. They’ve done a fabulous job of keeping up appearances, but their debts are about to catch up to them…right after they host the wedding of the century. The wedding is the perfect opportunity for his mother to sneakily pair off Rufus, future Earl, with someone super rich and connected, thereby saving the family from embarrassment. But Rufus just wants to surf and maybe explore things with his childhood best friend, Eden. His mother simply can’t let that happen, now can she?

While this is probably my least favorite Kevin Kwan novel, I still found it enjoyable. The tension I was expecting just wasn’t there. I didn’t get a sense of urgency when it came to Rufus finding a bride/protecting his fortune nor did I really buy the chemistry between him and Eden. That said, it will take a lot for me to tire of tales of out of touch extraordinarily wealthy people.

3.75 out of 5 stars.
