Thank you, oh thank you, TikTok for leading me to this hole in the wall spot. Hidden in the basement of the East Broadway Mall in Chinatown, you’ll find this treasure of a dumpling restaurant. The mall is all but abandoned – so much so that I’ve avoided it for years because I really didn’t think anything existed in there anymore. In truth, very few places do (it looks dystopian for sure), but two flights down you’ll find Fu Zhou Wei Zhong Wei Jia Xiang Feng Wei. And you’ll be happy you did.

I believe they used to have a larger menu but now limit themselves to a few core snacks. Perhaps this is a smart move because they seem to have honed the process and flavors.

I got an order of steamed dumplings (8 dumplings for $4) and a bamboo shoot cake (which does have pork, fyi, for $2.50). The food was finished off to order and arrived nice and steamy.

It was fabulous. And constituted more than just a snack – all for under $7. Their homemade dumpling sauce was also great. I don’t always find myself in the area, but that may have to change…
