What a busy week we’ve got! Last week I mentioned that things have been tough and a bit lonely, but that I’m taking steps to change that. This week is certainly an indication that I’m making moves! I had plans every evening last weekend, more this weekend, I joined a a book (meeting this weekend), and signed up for mahjong lessons that I’ll start in a few weeks. I’m not immune to wallowing, but I pride myself on not staying in that state for long. I’ve always been able to turn things around and find the beauty in a situation and I’m not stopping now.

On Friday evening I went to see All In. The tickets were a gift from Santa and meant to be our first February date night. Unfortunately, our sitter canceled day-of and we couldn’t find a replacement. My beau stayed home with Finn and I found a friend who happened to be free. Obviously, I would have loved going with Albert, but this was the best possible make-good. The person I went with was actually a new friend I had never met in person – and we got along! I also spent the hour before the show taking myself on a date at a new favorite spot where I ate delicious food, had some good wine, and made friends at the bar. The show itself was a great way to spend 90 minutes. A rotating cast of four actors (we lucked into a great group) sit on stage and read aloud some of Simon Rich’s short stories about love. I didn’t realize it, but they weren’t new pieces so having read several of his books, I was familiar with all but one story. Some would think that’s a bummer, but as a fan of his work, I loved seeing it in a new format and backed by music.

On Saturday I got into a Peloton in-studio class. I mentioned last week that exercise all but disappeared from my schedule and the lack of hard movement has taken a toll. No better way to get back into it than an in-person sweat sesh with the icon that is Cody Rigsby. It was my worst output…ever…by a lot, but I had a ton of fun. And it really helped me find my motivation again. Since that class, I’ve already found myself in the gym again and plan to go tomorrow. Baby steps, but baby steps that I’m proud of.

This was the first time I barely watched any of the Super Bowl. We went to our local spot and I was busy watching Finn, but I didn’t really mind because it wasn’t the most thrilling of games and it not invested in either team. I even missed the commercials, but I can always watch those back. We went home at halftime and I missed the whole halftime show to do bedtime, walking into the living room just as the third quarter was starting. By that point, I was over it and my allergies were starting to act up so I called it and went to finish my book. The game itself may have been a bit blah, but I really enjoyed myself and liked realizing how, more and more, we’re able to enjoy these things with Finn. He’s staying up later so we can do dinner together. In some ways, sure, it can be more stressful/hectic; but in others, it’s really nice. I like spending time together as a family and I like that once he actually is down I don’t have to cook or order food. I can just sink into the couch with Girl Scout cookies or some vino.
