I love that we have a good rotation of babysitters we can call on, but there’s still only so late we can ask them to stay. That means if we want to hit up more than just a single restaurant on a date night, we have to plan and time things out. Shy Shy was worth the planning.

I had enjoyed Jungle Bird so when I learned that the team was opening a sister bar across the street, I made a game plan to check it out. I love the somewhat retro glam vibes and they make a reeeally good cocktail. Shy Shy keeps that momentum going with even more blush tones in a smaller space (though there’s still a very nice sized party room).

This place feels like an entire spot designed around the quintessential girl evening of a martini, fries, and a Caesar salad. In fact, they have a Caesar salad martini on the menu that I’m happy to report is more than just a gimmick. It’s made with Ketel One Vodka (which happens to be my preference) washed with extra virgin olive oil and vermouth, and served with a one-bite ceasar salad (romaine leaf + anchovy + parm) – though I recommend nibbling it in a few bites to make it last. We didn’t get food because we had dinner reservations rapidly approaching, but the fries looked and smelled perfect and I spotted some other yummy bites on the menu like tinned mussels, deviled eggs, and pigs in a blanket. I’ll be back – and when I am, I’ll be snacking.
