I don’t live in the West Village or Greenpoint or anywhere crawling with people seeking viral fame via TikTok review, so if I spy a line of people waiting for food in my neighborhood, I can bet it’s going ti be good. And Make My Fish certainly is.

This seafood spot is a cash only, take-out only spot turning out the best fried fish I’ve had since moving to New York from a place that knows fried fish. I grew up eating catfish, but this time I got the whiting with collards and mac and cheese (and tartar sauce and hot sauce to go with it). For $20, I got plenty of fish and they mash a lot into those side containers. This would really serve two people. The collards could have used more smoke, but the mac and cheese was baked – WHICH IS HOW IT’S SUPPOSED TO BE. And the fish was fleshy with a great peppery batter. Honestly, it was incredible and made me wonder why I made catfish my #1 as a kid (don’t worry, they have catfish too). Is this the best fried fish in the city? It just might be.
