Jolene keeps to herself at work, and, frankly, everywhere. She bottles up her many frustrations with the only outlet for her salty behavior being the messages she hides in her work emails by writing them in white font. Just once, she’s careless and her secret is discovered, leaving her sentenced to sensitivity training. The new HR guy stewarding her through the process, Cliff, pushes himself into her life to become the friend she desperately needs (despite her protestations). But as she starts to relax around Cliff, she finds it harder to keep her other big work secret: she can read her entire department’s emails and DMs. While she initially used this knowledge to her career advantage, she soon realizes her insufferable coworkers are actually…real people.
I love seeing a curmudgeon crack open. All grumpy, guarded people are like that for a reason, and the payoff of getting to the root of that trauma is always satisfying. I loved watching Jolene soften, but also really enjoyed the banter and judgy antics on the way there.
4.5 out of 5 stars.
