Misery (yes, I rolled my eyes at the FMC’s name, but it’s worth it to move past it and enjoy the story) is the daughter of a high-ranking Vampyre councilman and, as such, has spent her life living among humans as collateral to maintain peace between the races. Just as her tenure has ended, her father brokers another deal, this one marrying her off to the Werewolf Alpha in another peaceful alliance. Her Were husband, Lowe, is broody and driven by justice. (Which is so sexy, obviously.) Misery recognizes this marriage can be mutually beneficial and just might help her get back the one thing she’s ever truly cared about. Now she just needs to make sure Lowe is on board.
When it comes to fantasy, this is in my wheelhouse. I love anything with elements of hierarchy/social structure and enjoy the blending of the supernatural in a contemporary setting, especially in a romance. I’m not typically a romance gal, but oddly it’s the high spice level here that started to change my opinion on that. Hazelwood’s sex scenes are hawt, but they also feel realistic. And when it comes to tropes, enemies to lovers, arranged marriage, and fated mates are right up my alley.
