Ruta Oaxaca

When I hear you specialize in mole, I’m GONNA get the mole. Beyond that, I needed only look at the menu at Ruta Oaxaca for about 30 seconds before I realized the enchilada section was where I needed to live.

We started with guacamole and chori queso. Both very good. I highly recommend asking for extra tortillas off the bat because you’ll likely want more for the chori queso and for all the sauce on your enchiladas. We pretty much each got a different enchilada and it was nice to see the variety. The sauce was very good but maybe there was a bit much of it. BUT not too much if you add it to whatever side you’ve ordered (esquites, plantains, rice and beans) and use some of those extra tortillas I recommended.

The raw onion was a surprise hit for me

There are a few locations, but I visited the one in Astoria, where the pink awning invited me in and suggested hey you can party here if you want. I wish they had tlayudas on the menu since that’s a Oaxacan favorite of mine, but I was very happy with everything I ate so I soon forgot the dish was absent from the menu.
