Camilla has barely settled into work – her first day back after mat leave – when a hostage situation takes over the news. She soon realizes her sweet, attentive husband Luke is involved…but not as a captive, as the captor. As the crime evolves and Luke makes his bed, Camilla must reframe and rebuild her life, all with the nagging feeling that maybe Luke isn’t the criminal he appears to be. And maybe the seemingly innocuous note he left her is the key to figuring out who is.
As far as thrillers go, this is a good one, especially because it acknowledges that crime changes a person, even if you’re not the one committing it. I didn’t give it the highest rating ever, though, simply because I think there are some books in the genre that have done it just a bit better. And because I figured out the main twist pretty early on.
3.5 out of 5 stars.
