All New Yorkers know of Zabars – it’s an Upper West Side icon. But not everyone knows the store’s full lore. Few know of the founder’s escape from Eastern Europe and tenacity as he established a better life for his family. And they certainly don’t know about the innovative marketing strategies and price wars that put Zabar’s firmly on top.
This store is steeped in history and the bonds between family members run deep – yes, it dispels myths of a rift between the family. I loved learning about such a bold and tight knit family and could even see parallels to my own, though admittedly my fam is in a Southern font.
