Skirt Steak

Everything here is simple, from the unfinished wood that makes you wonder if they’re still in the framing stage of a buildout to the menu which has essentially one item. But Skirt Steak has realized what works and it doesn’t include bells and whistles.

Here’s the deal: for $45, you get a salad, skirt steak, and unlimited fries. Sides change regularly, sit comfortably in the steakhouse wheelhouse, and run $12 each. There’s also a dessert trolley (fun!) with $12 cakes. You can upgrade to wagyu, but I wouldn’t recommend it – stick with the skirt steak because it certainly ain’t broke.

Everything was prepared really well. The steak had a perfect crust. I’ve heard it described as gamey and…yes. The fries were my ideal thickness and just crispy enough. The greens were surprisingly tasty and not at all sad/wilty with a nice dilly dressing. The mark of a good steak is that it doesn’t need anything. This one was very good as-is, but I really enjoyed dunking it into the peppercorn bearnaise sauce that came with it. Dipping sauces are my favorite thing – never ask me to ignore them. For sides we got the onion rings with ranch (perfect batter) and these creamy loaded potatoes that blew the standard steakhouse baked (or scalloped, for that matter) potato out of the water.

Drinks are not cheap, but the main meal feels like a steal. I was very happy with portion size and quality of everything that came across our table. My only qualm is that I asked for an extra ranch (for my fries) and they waited until it was not only out but sitting on our table to say that it would be an extra $2. Going for a big steak dinner with a group can sometimes feel like a once a year production, but this place makes it way more accessible. I left thinking yup, I’ll make plans to come here again. Oh and they have “steak hour” at 9pm Monday-Wednesday, when it’s $10 off. Go wild.
