Book Review: The Faculty Lounge

When we think back on high school, we always center ourselves, but there’s a whole microcosm on the other side of the desk. There’s the fresh young teachers full of hope and hormones; you’ve got the one who’s not so sneaky about her alcohol problem; there’s a stoic nurse who’s quietly helping young girls; and then there’s the teacher who’s shows up dead in the break room. We get inside the head of each faculty member and learn how they’ve all been shaped by one teacher, whether they realize it or not.

Both funny and heartwarming, Mathieu manages to remind us that there’s a whole world going on outside of us and it’s filled with a lovably flawed cast of characters. They’re all just trying to get through the day, and their everyday struggles and moments of joy are deliciously relatable.
