Trader Joe’s has a parmesan ranch dressing that they claim is low fat. It doesn’t taste low fat, which is why I had no problem drenching my slaw with it. Just toss some broccoli slaw with diced bell peppers and that dressing and you have a great picnic side. Halved cherry ‘maters would work well, too. I amped up the parmesan flavor of the dressing by also adding shaved parmesan. If you can’t get to a Trader Joe’s to find this specific dressing, using regular old Hidden Valley ranch and fresh parm will get you the same flavor.
Slaw is an all-American dish. A cookout is simply not the same without it so it had to be present for our 4th of July celebration. Using a bottled salad dressing was a much easier way to make a slaw than if I had made a dressing of mayo and vinegar. There are so many more ingredients involved in regular slaw. Who wants to deal with that? This only took about 3 minutes to make so instead of being stuck in the kitchen, I was able to join my friends on the roof for the 4th of July festivities.
