The tradition for my team’s office party is to go potluck style. There are about 50 people who work across the Fortune and Money brands, both editorial and publishing sides. Everyone brings in a dish and the whole group votes on their favorite. There are prizes at stake; people get into it. Our mini team of marketing folks was in it to win it and decided to do a group dish – a take on burgers and shakes.
We built a slider bar and encouraged everyone to make their own mini burgers with an array of toppings. Two of us made the burgers by basically making oven-baked meatballs in patty form. We kept them warm in crock pots and let everyone build their own burgers with all sorts of topping options:
- Burgers – turkey or beef
- Slider Buns (we used King’s Hawaiian rolls)
- Cheese
- Caramelized Onions
- Bacon
- Lettuce
- Tomato
- Pickles
- Ketchup
- Mustard
- Special Sauce (ketchup + mayo + relish)

We served the burgers with a shot glass of a boozy milkshake we dubbed The Jolly Holly. Mix cookies and cream ice cream, milk, and peppermint schnapps in a blender. Garnish with a mini candy cane.

Our table was a hit! We won the prize for best drink and I think we were robbed when it came to best food. Because you can easily keep the sliders warm, this is a great and easy meal to prep for a party. Superbowl, perhaps?
