We’re all the way at the end of the work week, and I’m only now starting to get into a normal routine. We didn’t get back from Savannah til Tuesday night, and then I spent allllll day yesterday in a company meeting that started at 7:30 AM. The sun had yet to rise when I left for the office, and it had already set by the time I got home. Needless to say, I’m happy to be getting back into a normal groove today. I’m also happy we got TONS of wedding stuff done while we were home. Cake: check. Flowers: check. Menu: check. The menu tasting was my favorite part, of course.
Back when my Mom was pregnant with me, my grandparents built a second home on Hilton Head. Our whole family has spent the last 31 years enjoying it. While that house is still very much around, my parents thought it was time to put a bigger stake in the island now that the grandkids are having kids. They closed on the land just last week so we went there on Sunday to christen the lot with a bottle of champs. I can’t wait to start building more memories there!
Usually when we’re in Savannah, our entire trip – no matter how long – is all about family. My fam is so super close that I like to suck up every possible moment with them. This trip, however, Albert and I ended up having an evening to ourselves. We had invited my parents to a movie screening and when they couldn’t attend we simply went by ourselves. It turned into a fabulous date night. We started with cocktails, shared some boiled peanuts (watching Albert get into this Lowcountry delicacy made him sexier than ever), attended a screening (so cultural!), and then ended the night with late night pizza. It was nice to have a true date night in Savannah!
Albert and I were lucky to have inadvertently timed our trip around the Savannah Film Festival. Though it’s been around for 19 years, it’s never been this big. SCAD has totally outdone themselves. We decided to go on a whim and booked out tickets the night before. I’m so glad we did! The movie we saw, “Other People”, was fabulous. Molly Shannon, who starred in the film, was there to accept the Spotlight award and participate in a Q & A. I can’t believe I’ve never attended this festival before. It was tons of fun and really cheap – definitely something different to do on a Monday. And please make sure you check out “Other People” – it’s a wonderful film.
