I am so excited to be heading to DC this weekend. It will be a short, 24-hour trip, but it will be so nice getting to spend Liz’s birthday with her. I’ll get back just in time to see the Falcons play in the Super Bowl, which is kind of a huge deal for Georgians.
Our work holiday party was last week because “January is the new December”. (And because “random Wednesday in January is cheaper than December.”) It turned out to be much more fun than I expected and stayed out much later than expected. At the very end of the night, I discovered the s’mores bar. I know this was super popular at weddings a few years ago and is now likely considered passe, but I loved it.
We sent out our rehearsal dinner invites this week and Albert got to work stuffing envelopes. I didn’t even have to ask him; he offered. I’ve definitely found a keeper.
Yesterday my company organized a panel discussion of powerful women at Time Inc. Moderated by Laura Brown, In Style editor, the panel included Vanessa Deluca (EIC of Essence), Nancy Gibbs (EIC of Time), Bucky Keady (head of HR), and Karen Kovacs (Time Inc. Group President, Sales). These are some badass #GirlBoss women, and it was great to have an hour of their time. I learned what their “oh shit I’m a big deal” moments were and how, no, you simply can’t have it all at the same time. Sometimes you take a career detour when your family needs you. Other times, you prove how you add value so even if you don’t receive the raise you’re seeking, you can request one and still have your boss’ respect.
