Sometimes I think there’s a place you’ve just got to know about and my Public Service Announcements (PSAs) will give you the full skinny.
I am NOT a yoga person. When it comes to working out, I like cardio. I need to jump around and release all that extra energy if I want to a) calm down and b) get fit. I’ve always felt I get fidgety in yoga and because I’m never going to give up cardio and practice 4x/week, I wouldn’t see results.
When Meredith raved about Y7 as her pre-wedding workout of choice, going multiple times per week, I figured it was worth a try. After all, this isn’t regular yoga, this is cool yoga. What makes it cool? It’s hip hop yoga. The first few minutes start with some soothing spa sounds, but then you’re vinyasa-ing to hip hop in an 80-90 degree room.
The room/studio itself is also cool. The branding is all black and white/neon. The studio has no mirrors, is painted black, and is lit by candlelight. I actually really liked how dark it was – it felt more judgement-free and it was easier to zen out.
The particular class I took was We Flow Hard Vinyasa. As a yoga first timer, I faltered a little when the moves really sped up, but I enjoyed it overall and definitely felt moments when I engaged my core. I was also DRIPPING sweat. When they say hot yoga, they’re not kidding. I happened to go on a very stressful day, and this actually helped relieve some of my anxiety, enough that I would be interested in going again.
FYI: The locker room doors remain open and are co-ed. This is not something I realized. Had I been aware, I would have utilized one of the changing rooms instead of stripping down in public. Don’t make my mistake..
