Sometimes I think there’s a place you’ve just got to know about and my Public Service Announcements (PSAs) will give you the full skinny.
All the moves at Fhitting Room look easy. They are NOT easy. This may just have been the toughest workout I’ve ever done.
The Fhitting Room is another boutique gym workout, this one being a HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) style. After a warmup (3 minutes of jumping jacks, squats, and mountain climbers), we paired off and did snatch lifts . Then comes the main part of the 50-minute class. We split up into groups and did a circuit of exercises. Each station had two different exercises that you alternated between for 50 seconds each, 3x each. There were 4 stations so you’re doing a total of 8 different exercises and 24 total sets. The exercises included ropes, bike, bicep curls, medicine ball thrusters, and more. It was exhausting…but then we still had to do a 3-minute sprint sesh of pushups, burpees, and squat jumps.
Each class has a max of 24 people and they all come with 2 trainers so you get pretty individualized attention. It may be a $38 class, but it’s about as close as you can get to personal training. I’ve never seen a trainer for less than $75 a session in NYC (and that’s when you get an under the table deal) so $38 for this kind of group training actually seems like a pretty good deal to me.
The locker area is open and co-ed, but there are a few shower rooms filled with lovely products and large, fluffy towels. I loved the shower rooms themselves – nice rain shower head and a little antechamber so you can have a changing area after you shower and don’t have to walk around in a towel. It’s the closest I’ve ever come to feeling comfortable going barefoot in the shower at the gym…but I still wore shower shoes.
I’m not gonna lie…I’m still sore.
