Sometimes I think there’s a place you’ve just got to know about and my Public Service Announcements (PSAs) will give you the full skinny.
Reading Terminal Market is a major tourist destination, but one I’d never hit up on any previous Philly trip. When Lindsay said they going the morning after her birthday/housewarming party AND it was right near where we were staying, we headed straight there.
Basically, this is a huge indoor space filled with a bunch of stalls. There are stalls for sandwiches, stalls for produce, tons for baked goods, and even some Pennsylvania Dutch merchants (closed on Sundays). Walk around, grab a sandwich (we figured you could get better cheesesteaks elsewhere and instead opted for a roast pork sandwich from DiNic’s. It had been hanging out in its jus so the meat was tender and it had tons of good garlic goin on.
The place can get mobbed, but at 11 AM on a Sunday, it wasn’t bad at all. We didn’t hit a major wait at any of the stalls. It was also easy to navigate, thanks to the street signs at every row.
If you’re a visitor, this is a great place to hit up on your way to the train station. Plenty of the vendors offer chiller bags so you can take anything home. Even on ice, I don’t recommend taking any of the fresh fish with you (your train mates will hate you), but I do highly recommend a stop at Condiment if you love dips and sauces even half as much as I do.
