The Home Group is basically Soho House if Soho house was even snobbier and cost even more money. Membership is only granted to the extraordinarily wealthy – celebs and socialites alike. In addition to catering to their every obscure need, The Home Group offers its members something they value dearly: privacy. The Home Group knows the many secrets harbored by members and they’ll keep them…for a price, of course. While there are Homes around the world, the newest location on a secluded island off the coast of England is set to be the most extravagant and the launch party will take the Home Group to a new stratasphere. Unfortunately, we know from page one that the party ends with death. What could be happening behind the scenes to cause such mayhem?
This book cemented my belief that celebrities are not just like us. And, in fact, most are pretty terrible. Collette, one half of the husband/wife duo that makes up the pseudonym for author Ellery Lloyd, actually used to be the editorial director at Soho House and I love that the concept felt just real enough to be used as a foundation but then dialed up to outlandish proportions to make for good fiction. I also love that the setting is based on Osea Island, where I actually stayed for a work retreat so I can fully picture it. If you’re into old school Agatha Christie-esque murder mysteries, this is a perfect book for you. It has the rhythm you’re looking for but with a modern edge.
