Twenty Twenty Four

How’d I do in 2023 and what’s the plan for 2024?

I may not have set up many playdates, but my beau and I did successfully maintain our monthly date night goal and took advantage of our network of babysitters (so we’ll plan to keep that going). I got another tat, took a friend trip to the Bahamas, upped my weekend activity game with Finn, took fam photos, and [sorta] got into a workout routine. Overall? Dang, I did good. Check here for a full review of last year’s resolutions.

Can I be as successful when it comes to my 2024 goals?

  • Become one of those women who can wear a coat just on her shoulders. It looks so effortless and chic. Perhaps I should buy a new coat with this goal in mind?
  • Get back to my reading goal. I never stopped reading, but the last two years I’ve gone through significantly fewer books than in the past. Cutting down on my commute in a hybrid work environment meant losing serious book time. Even when I’m WFH, I feel compelled to start work as soon as I’m free (i.e., after dropping Finn off and before 9am) but that shouldn’t be necessary. Maybe I should start planning “commuting time” after dropoff – 20 minutes where I drink my coffee and do some reading before sitting down at the computer.
  • Buy new rugs. Our rugs have been completely destroyed. I don’t want to replace them until I know Finn is done throwing food on the floor, but once he’s past that, it’s on.
  • DIY a house rules sign. I love the cute and personal ones I’ve seen on TikTok. It feels worlds away from the Live Laugh Love signs that proliferate mass retailers…but if this should ever start feeling cheesy like that, a DIY version is such a low investment that I won’t mind just throwing it away as soon as I’m “over it.” (Working copy includes: Tacos every Tuesday, No outside clothes on the bed, Movie musicals = good, Phones off @ supper)
  • Play more vinyl. We have a pretty solid record collection but they’ve gone largely unplayed the last few years. We started playing some to set the vibes while trimming the tree and later while reading the Sunday Times and I remember how much I love it. I’d like to play them more often – not just at holiday time.
  • Learn to play mahjong. This is probably my loftiest goal. In addition to needing to learn the rules, I’d have to find people to play with. My La La played for many years and it would be a nice way to connect with her. Plus, who doesn’t love learning a new skill, finding a hobby, and maybe even making some new friends?!
  • Make a celebration plate. I can’t rembember where I saw it, but people are making special plates that their children use on each birthday. I would love this for Finn! It could be very cool to make my own at a pottery painting studio, but I’ve also seen some very nice [ready-to-rock and still customizable] ones that I like. (here, here, and here)
  • Go to the library more often. The library is an incredible resource and I don’t know why I don’t take advantage of it more regularly. I got myself a library card so that’s step one complete.
