Mirepoix

While last week was very busy, this week is only somewhat busy. It feels more balanced while still giving me things to look forward to and I’m liking it.

Admittedly, I am part of the raging fandom that is the Fourth Wing/Empyrean series. I live for the romantasy. I get lost in fan theories. I post my own takes on social media. The 3rd book in the series came out last week and tickets to all release parties/events sold out months ago. But then a friend could no longer attend the launch event on Friday with the book’s author – moderated by Olympic medalist and absolute icon Laurie Hernandez – and I snapped up her ticket. It was so much fun. I loved being in a packed theater with fellow book nerds. I loved getting a signed copy. I loved learning that Laurie Hernandez is a total kindred spirit. I loved fully embracing the fandom itself. I loved the triple wine I brought to my seat. It was an EVENT and I’m so glad I went.

Shawn and Kathleen recently bought a house and we got to see it on Saturday. It is such a cool home with so much gorgeous original detail. I am so happy for them…and I’m so happy for us because while it’s a whole dang house like you only envision in the burbs, it’s still in their same Bronx neighborhood – technically still NYC – and a hop skip and a jump away from us.

For his big Xmas gift, I got Albert (and me) tickets to Candlelight Concerts. A friend had gone to one and after seeing the post in her IG stories, I looked them up. From then on, I was constantly served ads…and it worked. The concerts allow you to enjoy live strings music while surrounded by hundreds of candles. They have classical options, but I think the most interesting are their more unique musical stylings. They take on The Beatles, Ed Sheeran, Whitney Houston, Beyoncé, Queen, or, in our case, a mix of hip hop. The music was fabulous and the experience A+.
