Mirepoix

Nobody in our household has had weeknight plans this week and it’s been kinda nice. I typically love having an event or something to break up the week, but I’ve been running around and exhausted so it’s been good to feel like I can catch up on rest.

With the sun setting after 8 pm, leaving for a double date felt like we were doing something scandalous going out in the afternoon. It was downright exhilarating.

I really wanted to take V to the Bastille Day festival. We invited his best friend from school and I was very excited to finally get back to an event I always loved but haven’t attended in years. The problem is that Finn and his little bestie, Alice, are so happy when they’re together that they were impossible to manage. They giggled nonstop (love) and thought it was hilarious to run away from us…in a very crowded street fest where an adult can’t zig zag and maneuver. Albert was at the Yankee game and it was juts too much for me to handle on my own. After about an hour, Finn asked to go to the bookstore and I happily complied. Maybe we’ll try again next year, but for now I’m happy I got to witness their best friend joy and still found a calm activity that he loved.

A week and a half ago, I decided on a whim to sign up for a 5-mile race that is now just a week and a half away. That means almost no training time, but I’ve been trying to get my body ready for a slightly longer run in what is bound to be a sticky morning in Central Park. I generally prefer treadmill runs but have forced myself to get outside, where I’m always reminded that it’s such a privilege to have the park as my backyard.
