Mirepoix

So somehow we’re almost at the end of summer?! I was not prepared. I really feel like I’ve found my summer groove and now I’m being told to prep for fall. I guess that’s how it always is but mannnn is it tough. At least I have college football to look forward to and, this season, there’s minimal overlap between UGA and Notre Dame, which will make for a much more chill household.

I went to the Jersey Shore for the first time over the weekend! Turns out, I love it and am a total bay girl. Ocean is fine (and the town we were in had that too), but the bay side felt like the perfect river/lake combo. We had the best time staying with our friends at their beach house and it was great watching our kids run around together. We also had a perfect evening at home with happy hour, food on the grill and plenty of wine. We were even able to join a party with the neighbors without having to change out of our sweats – all while the kids snoozed upstairs and we didn’t have to hire a sitter. I love a seaside getaway and only wish we gave ourselves a little more time to explore the seafood shacks.

I got a haircut on Friday evening and because of when it ended it was better for me to stay out of the apartment to avoid messing up an in-progress bedtime routine. Also, my sweet beau thought it would be good for me to have a night out. When none of my friends were around, I decided to sit at the bar at JG Melon’s, one of my absolute favorite places for the last 18 years. The bartender noticed what I was reading and we became fast friends. Next thing you know, I’m invited to take a shot with the people on the barstools next to me and getting home after midnight. It was a random and surprisingly great Friday night.

My aunt and uncle invited us to a Yankees game on Tuesday so we enjoyed a lovely weeknight outing! We often each have at least one event during the week, but we tag team it so we can both have fun but not have to worry about a sitter. It was really nice to get to go out together for a change!
