Mirepoix

It is TOUGH dealing with this cold. I simply wasn’t built for this. My motivation to do anything is gone, and all I want to do is snuggle.

My Mom turned 70 a week ago, and to celebrate, she and my Dad came here for a quick visit. The original plan was to come Friday to Sunday, but the impending snow storm had them shift the trip up a day, which meant a little less time. No matter – we make it work! They came over on Thursday night for some takeout and then picked up V early from school. He was so excited to show them his classroom. We then hit up the museum and bookstore before Albert took him home and the three of us Konters went to dinner and a show. The show itself was great – I have a feeling it’s going to snag some Tonys – and I’m so happy I got this time with my parents. I can’t believe how lucky I am to have the kind of parents (and the kind of relationship with them) who want to spend their birthdays like this.

Welp, apparently snow days no longer exist. It’s sad that kids today will never know the thrill of waking up to a snow (or in my lowcountry case, hurricane) warning and running to the tv with crossed fingers to see if your school was canceled. Now that they’ve added holidays to the school calendar while still needing to hit 180 days of school and have proven that remote learning “works,” when schools themselves are closed, they’re still very much in session. It’s very difficult when school is closed but work is not, so it was a long, tough day on Monday. I was surprised that even in preK, Finn still had assignments that I had to photograph and upload, but at least it helped us fill out the day. I particularly liked his writing assignment, where he had to write down his observations of the snow. It may not look like much, but the fact that he didn’t trace a single letter (I just told him which letters to write) is a big deal. We survived.

It was a pretty epic snowfall and wild to see what piled up around the parked cars.
