On a recent day off, I decided to hop around UES coffee shops to discover some new favorites. I would be evaluating based on a ratio of coffee quality to coziness. Cafe Bleriot is a tiny shop on 83rd street has both.

This tiny baroque haven has moody Fleur-de-Lis wallpaper, gold ceiling, and chandeliers and frames that are both overly ornate for the small space (in a good way). The whole space feels like a corner, which makes it perfect for sipping solo or having a huddled conversation.

They’re not big on laptops so they lost points there, but I enjoyed my latte and a brief respite from the cold. I didn’t try a pastry but have heard good things. Final review: great place to stop in, but can’t secure “favorite” ranking since it’s not a great spot to get writing done.
