These first two weeks at my new job have been great but extremely busy. The hours are long but the work is interesting so I’ve been happy overall. I’m still figuring out my groove, though, and sorting out a routine has been tough. I’m sure it will fall into place in time, but for now I’m really enjoying the weekends where I feel like I control things a bit more.
I went to DC over the weekend to visit Liz for her birthday. At the time I was booking my ticket, I was unsure of where things with the new job and new apartment would stand so I wasn’t comfortable leaving on Friday. Instead, I left super early on Saturday (a 6 AM train – yikes) and tried to squeeze as much fun into a 30 hour window as possible. I always love walking through Union Station – it’s such a pretty train station.
One of the best things about being friends with someone for so long is that you can be completely comfortable simply sitting on the couch for a few hours after a night of drinking, bingeing old episodes of Friends and doing face masks. Also, how jealous are you of Liz’s bathroom window? A window in the bathroom is one of those rare luxuries for city dwellers.
The weather in NYC has been pretty wacky for the last two weeks. Temps go from 26 to 43 in a matter of hours. We got a brief moment of snow that I actually didn’t mind because it made for a beautiful morning walk and warmed up in the afternoon. That said, I”m fully ready for winter to be over.
