Even in quarantine, I love a short week! Sadly, NYC was overcast for pretty much the entirety of the long weekend so there was no Memorial Day grilling happening Chez Neudeck. It did get pretty Monday afternoon so we were able to get in a nice 6 mile walk – after 3 straight days of eating garbage and drinking all the wine, it was much needed. It may have been a short week, but it was not an easy one. Sure, work was stressful, but the two awful acts of racism that occurred this week (I’m talking about Amy Cooper’s abhorrent behavior and George Floyd’s senseless murder) have left me feeling empty and angry. I don’t know about you, but I’m ready for this week to be over.

I finished my first NY Times crossword! My Mom sent me a book of them that I finally decided to tackle. My completed puzzle was just a Monday one (the easiest of them all), but I’m still very proud of myself.

I always love walking around the Conservatory Garden so we made a beeline there for the few hours that we had nice weather on Monday. Unfortunately, they are in the middle of re-planting for the season so there wasn’t a ton to see, but there were these beauties to behold. There were also some peonies about to open up, which was a nice reminder that it’s peony season!

Yesterday was not a great day. It was just one of those days where everything went wrong. I had been wanting to try out a cupcake recipe and the moment the workday ended, I slammed my laptop shut and headed straight to the kitchen. I’m not someone who enjoys or is good at baking, but I needed something that i could pour my concentration into and distract myself from my own frustrations. And for the first time all day, something went right. The cupcakes were delicious and the cupcake liners my beau had picked up happened to be a fun sunshiny moment that reminded me to appreciate the little things.
