Mirepoix

Hellooooo from vacation! To say this trip home was overdue might be the understatement of the pandemic. The weather hasn’t been ideal, but I don’t even care because I’ve been surrounded by all my favorite people. I’m working from home this week but really tried to disconnect last week so I could devote all my attention to my fam (hence the lack of posts). I’ve naturally been eating healthier, I’ve gotten lots of reading done, and I haven’t turned on the tv once. It’s been really lovely and truly relaxing.

When we’re in Hilton Head we stay local…and I mean very local. We basically don’t leave the house. Since we’ve got the beach and pool in our backyard it’s just easier to stay home (especially with a couple young kids) than it is to battle tourists. But that doesn’t mean we don’t have fun at home. Last week my Mom decided to theme most of the nights so we could try out new recipes and teach the boys how to say hello in several different languages. We had Italy night, Mexico night, and Hawaii night. I was partial to the huli huli chicken and pineapple skewers on Hawaii night and loved getting King’s Hawaiian rolls as a treat.

A big reason I’m happy to be home is the opportunity to spend some time with my La La. At 92, traveling to NYC is not really an option anymore so I haven’t been able to see her [in person] in a year. It’s been so nice to just have a few good chit chats with her because phone and facetime just aren’t the same.

The weather has been less than ideal this entire trip. It’s rained at least a little bit every day for two weeks straight. On the bright side, there’s only been a day or two when the rain lasted all day. Any moment the sun poked through, we rushed to the beach or by the pool to take advantage of the turn in weather, and that included beach races where I was impressed to see the boys really starting to keep up.
