Mirepoix

This past weekend was boring. We hunkered down to prepare for Henri, the hurricane that wasn’t. I suppose it’s not the worst thing to have a super low key weekend. I got in a great workout and did some reading so it wasn’t a total waste.

While my Mom was here we hit up the Grand Bazaar flea market (held every week in the parking lot of an UWS school). It’s one of the best and largest fleas – there’s always something to be found there. I was thrilled to stumble upon this vintage beaded handbag in perfect condition for only $35. I was so excited that I totally forgot to haggle, which the shop owner totally would have done.

It’s been a long time since I’d been to a happy hour. I’m just less likely to make after-work plans when I’m working from home. But on Thursday a group of healthy, vaccinated friends all met up and it was glorious. We were lucky to find an airy bar that we could have pretty much all to ourselves. It felt very normal and it was so good to hang with some friends I hadn’t seen in a long time. This blurry, dark pic will have to do.

A recent recipe called for me to grind some saffron with a mortar and pestle…which I def didn’t own. Amazon Prime to the rescue! I love this little baby mortar and pestle in my fave color and because it’s tiny, I like how it looks just sitting on the counter. It’s a nice addition to the kitchen that only set me back about $12.
