Mirepoix

I don’t know if you noticed (you probably didn’t…does anybody read this? do I care?) but I had two weeks of zero posting on this site. First I was gone for a week on a work trip in England and then I came back with COVID that fully took me out for a week. I have to stop here and praise my beau. It was already asking a lot to have him fully take care of Finn while I was away (he would be in daycare, true, but he only just started the day I left town so we weren’t in a groove yet), but then he continued to hold down the fort when I was out of commission. We all take our turns, but he was thrown into the fire and handled it gracefully. But now I’m back, baby! The ‘vid is no joke. I felt awful but know it would have been so much worse if I hadn’t been vaxxed/boosted. Now that I’m finally starting to feel like myself again, I’m ready to do all the things.

I left on a Monday afternoon so we spent Sunday on one of our long walks. This time, I strapped Finn into the carrier instead of the stroller so we could hit up a different neighborhood. We haven’t really left our immediate neighborhood since having him and it was nice to go someplace different and feel like our old selves. We decided to make Union Square the destination, which meant a nice stroll through The Strand on Indie Bookstore Day, where I won a prize!

I was out of the country for a week and I came back to a child who could do some new tricks! Finn has always been a tummy time champ, but he was never really reaching for things while he was on the mat. He’s still mostly content to enjoy the perspective from that position, but now he reaches out to grab his toys. Soon he’ll be motivated to crawl after those toys, I think!

One of my favorite things to do in other countries is check out their snack situation. I love trying whatever local dish they serve at McDonald’s and always grab chips and candy. This was my airport haul and it did not disappoint.
