Temperance

There’s a bar in the West Village with over 100 wines on hand – all available by the glass, mind you – that has an incredible wine flight deal for happy hour and is super cute with an amazing staff. Oh and there’s a patio in the back. What is this magical place? It’s Temperance wine bar.

What’s the vibe? Fun…and a little mod. They’ve got some black and white checkerboard going, along with terra cotta and a deep bold blue. Shapes abound – lots of circles and half moons to emulate the shapes of a wine glass. This is important because wine bars aren’t typically described as “fun.” Sure, they always are fun (what isn’t after a few glasses), but “fancy,” “low key,” and “buttoned up” are more usual descriptors. I absolutely love that Temperance aims to make the wine drinking experience a fun one. Even the food menu is fun. While I NEVER turn down a meat and cheese plate, this bar has built a delightful snack menu of popcorn, deviled eggs, broccoli and gruyère balls, and a duck meatballs.

The best way to enjoy this place is to go during happy hour when, from 4-6, you can get 4 wines for for $38 or 6 for $57. If you find something you like, you can always get it by the glass. Or you can branch out because this staff knows all. After pointing out my favorites from the flight and describing why I liked them, my server (shoutout to Kelsey – she was amazing) brought me some other incredible wines to try.

Oh and the bathroom is a disco ball.
