I can see how it would be confusing, but Westside Coffee Shop #2 is neither a coffee shop nor the second of its kind. Tribeca is not where I would expect to find authentic Dominican food. A matcha coffee shop? Sure. A French bistro? Of course. But this is not the kind of place that comes to mind when you think of this area…which is exactly what makes it so great.
I ordered the pernil which came with rice and beans and it was so much food that I pretty much wasn’t ready for supper until nearly 10pm. I basically got my arm workout in for the day just by carrying my meal back to the office. This pork was roasted to perfection. And once you add some of the restauarant’s special hot sauce, the rice and beans were on point too.
This Dominican diner is entirely unassuming. In fact, I’ve worked about three blocks away for 3.5 years and only just discovered it. I’ll be back, but next time I’ll bring some tupperware so I can take the leftovers home.
