This week has been kind of a frustrating one with work so I’m really trying to focus on all the other the cool non-work stuff I’ve got going on right now. Top of the list is that Finn is starting to enjoy hanging out/playing with his parents. His school was closed on Presidents’ Day and my beau spent the whole first half of the day with him at the museum and coffee shop. When they walked back in the door at 12:30, Finn had the biggest smile on his face. I loved seeing him so happy after something as simple as spending a few hours with his Dad.

I mentioned hitting up Sushi Katsuei over the weekend, but it was nice for reasons other than just the quality sushi. I was meeting a college friend and his wife at a comedy show that didn’t start til 11pm. That meant there was no way both my beau and I could go. We love getting a babysitter and having ourselves a night out, but we need to be able to relieve a sitter by 11:30…which is basically when my night would just be getting started. So he stayed home and I went out, but – let’s face it – I’m old. If I waited til 10:15 to leave the house, I’d never make it. I’d put on sweats and it would be game over. Instead, I planned a 9:30 dinner reservation and left the house at 8:45, taking the subway to stretch it out. I listened to a podcast and when I got to the restaurant, sat at the bar and read a book while I ate and had some sake. Honestly, it was lovely. I don’t get a ton of time to settle in with a book or a podcast and to be able to do that while enjoying delcious food and drink was kinda blissful. I always recommend taking yourself on a lil date.

One of V’s favorite books right now is Dim Sum Palace so on Sunday we decided to take him to Chinatown to enjoy the meal he’d been hearing so much about. We went to my favorite, Jing Fong, which looks different in their new, smaller location but is every bit as yummy. Though Lunar New Year was the previous weekend, they still had some celebrations and Finn loved seeing the dragons walk through the restaurant to the sound of drums.

I spent Sunday naptime eating a favorite sandwich, watching a Netflix romcom, and working on my new Substack. It was lowkey and really nice. I was so exhausted after a late Saturday night and busy Sunday morning that the alone time was desperately needed to recharge. It’s shaping up to be a similar Sunday this weekend since my beau has plans all afternoon/evening, and I’m actually looking forward to it.
