Mirepoix

You may have noticed I missed a few days posting. (A week. I missed a week.) That’s because I just could not kick whatever sickness I picked up from V. After a workout on Tuesday morning (the 5th), I was extra exhausted, which quickly became overall soreness/weakness (and I think a fever). I remained on the couch all day until 2:30…at which point I simply transferred to my bed. I started feeling better over the next few days (though still very rundown) and took Tylenol/Motrin around the clock to stay even. On Friday I flew to Atlanta for a bat mitzvah, feeling not incredible but nothing crazy. On Saturday morning, however, I woke up feeling just like I did on Tuesday, maybe worse. I missed the whole bat mitzvah. It was miserable. On Monday (the 11th) I went to the doctor and tested negative for both flu and covid. Just some rando virus. That week was more of me feeling like the week prior, just with a gnarly cough. On Friday (the 15th) I finally woke up feeling better. It truly felt like the fog had lifted. The cough, however, was still there but my dear husband realized I’d transitioned to a real bad case of the allergies, thanks to his WeatherBug alert. Now I’m popping the generic version of Allegra and staying indoors as much as possible to avoid that pollen. The allergy symptoms are annoying, but I’m just so happy to not feel foggy and exhausted anymore! Here’s what’s been happening during the times I tried to peek out from my sickness.

I had big plans to enjoy Atlanta for the brief time I was there. I got there early on Friday and got to hang out with one of my sorority sisters for a few hours before everyone else arrived for the festivities. Toward the end of our hang is when I started fading, but before then I loved hanging around the Beltline with her. Atlanta now is sooo different from the Atlanta of my youth. While it’s not truly walkable, there are now large pedestrian areas and it has a way more urban feel. The Beltline is famous for its murals and it’s a great neighborhood to stroll while checking out street art and very cute bungalows.

While I missed the main event (a real shame because I heard the service was lovely and the luncheon delicious), I was able to make it to the Friday Night of the bat mitzvah before I really started feeling bad. I’ve known Avery since the day she was born and have loved seeing her grow into such a mature and thoughtful young lady so all I wanted was to celebrate her. While many bar and bat mitzvahs are a whole to-do, that’s just not Avery’s vibe. The initial plan was a trip to Israel with just immediate family, but the terror attacks on October 7th meant that had to be canceled. Instead, she planned a really sweet and intimate gathering of her nearest and dearest, and I was honored to be included. Friday Night was just a few of us (under 20) at their house for a meal. Nothing fancy, just fam – perfect. I love that Avery knows just what suits her and planned a celebration that was special and all her.

I had to run an errand around the corner from BonBon so of course I went in to stock up this week. While it’s much smaller, I’m so happy to have a location of this spot in the UES because the original is just noooot super convenient for me and I need my fix!
