This week has been busy, but not as crazy as the last couple where work was nuts AND it was the high holidays. Things are calm and relaxed by comparison, which really lends to the cozy fall vibes we’ve got going on. My parents arrive in town tomorrow and I am SO excited. I haven’t seen them in almost three months which is WAY longer than normal and not to my liking at all. The last few visits we’ve spent most of our time at the apartment just watching Finn play with perhaps a trip to a museum thrown in. I don’t mind that at all because it feels like “normal” life if we all lived in the same city, but I’m excited that we’ve made actual plans for this visit. We’ve got quite the schedule and I’m now counting down the hours.

I generally love a street fair, but Japan Fes and Dragon Fest have particularly good food stalls.

After a haircut it’s always nice to have plans to show off the fresh ‘do. The night of my cut, the plans I had in mind suddenly felt too aggressive (going to the LES, pretty much the least convenient neighborhood to get back to Harlem later, and dancing at what was starting to feel like a rave). Still, I felt like I should stay out. I decided to try my luck at one of my favorite spots, JG Melon, which was on the route home. It was packed, but as a solo diner, it wasn’t long before I snagged a spot at the bar. I had my book, a fave burger, and a jolly bartender. I was in heaven. I ended up making friends with the people next to me (we’ve even texted since!) and stayed out far later than I intended. I didn’t drink too much because I needed to be fresh for work and the Yom Kippur fast was starting the following night, but I just really enjoyed being out. It was a great New York evening.

Finn picked out pumpkins two weeks ago and even painted a few of them, activities that both earned thumbs up from him. Our home is Hocus Pocus ready. (Yes, I’ve already watched this season.)
