We’re coming off a string of bad weather days. It rained for three days straight – Saturday, Sunday, and Monday – and totally killed all our weekend plans. Not one but two fall festivals we planned to attend were canceled. We made the most of it though! I got some good quality time with V (he took me on a taco date) before watching the Dawgs secure a win, and even got a little solo time when Albert took Finn to an activity.

Knowing the weather was going to be bad all weekend, I was not going to take no for an answer when it came to San Gennaro fest. It’s one of my favorite events of the year, and since it was the 100th anniversary, I knew they’d do it big. Plus it would potentially be our only opportunity to be outside all weekend. I would not accept protests from Finn that he just wanted to eat pizza and watch a movie in the couch at home. Thankfully, he not only agreed to go, but he had a great time. He played games and ate his face off. It also made me realize we’ve reached a new level of parenting. We can actually enjoy the things we like to do, just with him tagging along. We experienced San Gennaro the way we used to, without having to accommodate him or him accommodating us. That’s how it was when he was a non-verbal, non-mobile infant that we could just tote around, but for the last few years we’ve been stuck in this phase where he’s tired or whiney or needs extra/different attention. Now, he can kinda hang!

On Sunday we discovered The Craft Studio. They have so many options, but once Finn spotted the Batman pottery, he didn’t have eyes for anything else. It was nice because he could be creative, but we could still help out so it was something we could do together – an ideal rainy day activity, especially because, all-in, it took up 2 hours of the day without resorting to tv. And I happen to think his art came out amazing!

Last night was Curriculum Night at V’s school and I loved seeing where and how he spends his days. Sure, I’m familiar with the school because it’s not his first year there, but it’s a new classroom and new teacher!
