BG Cafe at Berdorf Goodman

Ahh, to be a lady of leisure.  I can only imagine what it would be like if I was a true Park Avenue Princess, married to a financier, filling my days by heading up charities and flitting about the New York social scene.  Well, for one afternoon, I got to play out how it would feel to be one of the ladies who lunch.

As a congratulations for landing a new job, Chaps1 offered take me out for my last lunch at Mediavest.  For my sendoff, we went to BG Café at Bergdorf Goodman.  It’s where only the most important socialites dine.  Who doesn’t want to spend $37 on a salad between a hair appointment at John Barrett salon and shopping for Chanel?  Everything here seems draped in luxury, from the stunning 5th Avenue views to the Chinoiserie walls, to the plastic surgery people watching.  I’ve never seen so much botox and I loved every second of it.

We each ordered our own soups (Autumn minestrone for Chaps, corn bisque with crab flan for me) and then split the sea bass entree with cabbage and squash/truffle purees.  We also ordered a side of Brussels sprouts with bacon and the cookies for dessert.  And then we each had a couple glasses of wine because when you’re a lady who lunches, you’re allowed to have a few cocktails in the middle of the day.  I was not expecting good food and really didn’t care – I was there for the fancy pants experience.  But I was pleasantly surprised to find the food delightful.

If you’re looking fun a fun, girly day treat, I highly suggest splitting a Gotham salad with a girlfriend here, followed by blowouts or a styling at the braid bar.  You’ll feel very pretty and important.
