Book Review: The People We Hate At The Wedding

This was one of those books everyone was talking about as the “fun read of the summer”.  Since it came out just as I was leaving for my big fun trip of the summer, I decided I had to pick it up…even if it meant not waiting for the paperback edition.

This is a book for the cynics.  The ones who just love to complain about weddings and all those rich, blessed, nice, pretty people.  Don’t you just hate them?  Paul and Alice certainly do.  This brother/sister pair is just over it.  Over their annoying mother, over their lame jobs, over their douchy significant others, and certainly over their perfect half sister, Eloise, who is getting married in England.  As they head to London to begrudgingly celebrate Eloise’s charmed life, all their family tensions come to a head.

3.5 out of 5 stars – a good read about a dysfunctional family that’s actually not all that dysfunctional…though I would say this is one to wait for in paperback (especially because that will make it easier to read on the beach).

  1. Great review! I read this too, because Kevin Kwan promoted it and says that it’s similar to his books. I was expecting more humor but sadly, for me, it didn’t live up to Kevin Kwan’s novels.
